In solidarity with refugee families
In May 2020, the SOLIDARNA Foundation, in cooperation with the NGO Are You Syrious? and the creative agency Bruketa & Žinić & Grey launched a campaign to provide support for refugee families in Croatia affected by the corona crisis.
The campaign was launched on May 25th with the aim of providing one-time financial assistance for 40 refugee households in Croatia working with the NGO Are You Syrious? through integration programs in Croatia. During the campaign, another 15 households from the area of Zagreb, Karlovac and Sisak contacted the association for support, leading us to continue collecting donations past the initial 120,000.00 HRK (EUR 33, 145.47). In order to raise funds for all households in need, citizens also organized independent donation drives and offered their knowledge, skills and professional services in order to help raise funds.
A total of over HRK 180,000.00 (EUR 23,862.99) was collected from citizens’ donations, and although the campaign was initially launched with the goal of collecting aid for 40 households, a one-month financial payment in the amount of HRK 3,000.00 (EUR 397.72) per household was provided to 60 households. The campaign was supported by 623 donors, of whom over 90% are from Croatia.
Simultaneously with providing financial support to all pre-registered households, Are You Syrious? continued to provide support to its beneficiaries in searching for work through its integration programs, which is the only way for them to secure their long-term subsistence in Croatia. At the same time, Are You Syrious? and the SOLIDARNA Foundation demanded that government institutions take greater responsibility during this time of crisis.
