The SOLIDARNA program represents a mosaic of actions aimed at strengthening the autonomy and solidarity of civic action to reduce inequalities and expand the space for rights and freedoms in all spheres of Croatian society.
The program is structured in three-year strategic and annual operational cycles, adapting to opportunities for action and current capabilities, requiring flexibility and openness. The SOLIDARNA Foundation serves as a key link in achieving humanitarian and social goals, building bridges between individuals, organizations, and businesses to create a better, fairer world where human rights are the cornerstone of society. Trust, openness, and creativity are our main assets, which we strive to transform into tangible, timely, and effective support for citizens in protecting human rights.
Strategic Goals of SOLIDARNA (2024–2027):
- Support active citizenship in defending human rights
- Strengthen the culture of solidarity and philanthropy for human rights
- Organizational development
Since its inception, the Foundation has aimed to develop and strengthen civil society in Croatia and the region to make it one of the fundamental pillars of democracy. A program to support active citizens in human rights protection provides rapid and targeted support to human rights defenders, civic initiatives, and victims of human rights violations through donations, ad hoc fundraising campaigns, education, counseling, mentoring, ICT support, and networking. Active Citizenship Support Program (2024–2027) considers main goals: 1.1 Strengthen civil society, 1.2 Support and mobilize human rights defenders and activists and 1.3 Promote gender equality.
The purpose of SOLIDARNA is to develop philanthropy and other forms of social support for the promotion and protection of human rights. Accordingly, one of SOLIDARNA’s strategic goals is to strengthen the culture of solidarity and philanthropy for human rights. The program to strengthen the culture of solidarity is based on a wide range of collaborative initiatives with numerous organizations, the business sector, private foundations, the cultural sector, and media. These initiatives aim to build domestic philanthropy for human rights, focusing on the crisis and developmental needs of society. The program is implemented through three components: 1. Increasing the visibility of philanthropy for human rights in the media; 2. Developing individual philanthropy, 3. Developing corporate philanthropy.
Organizational Development
In the next strategic period, the SOLIDARNA Foundation will continue to develop its organizational capacities to respond effectively and efficiently to the needs of its beneficiaries, as well as to challenges and opportunities as they arise.
Advocacy Focus of SOLIDARNA
In the upcoming strategic period, the Foundation’s advocacy focus will remain on protecting the space for civil liberties, developing civil society, and protecting vulnerable groups and their rights (anti-discrimination, social inclusion, social welfare, healthcare, and the judiciary). SOLIDARNA will leverage its advocacy capacities and continue to support civil society representatives in Croatia working on these issues.
Collaboration and Learning
As a member of the Croatian Foundation Network, the ZADobro.BIT! Foundation Forum, the ARIADNE Network, and through partnerships with Catalyst Balkans and the EEA/NGO Active Citizenship Fund, the SOLIDARNA Foundation continually learns in collaboration with the European philanthropic community. This is particularly evident in cooperation with private foundations and community foundations advocating for human rights, solidarity, and social innovation.
