EBRD Community Initiative for Sisak – Moslavina County in cooperation with SOLIDARNA Foundation

The EBRD Community Initiative was established in 2016 by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as a platform for the bank and its staff to engage in the philanthropic, social and cultural activities. At the initiative of the employees of the EBRD Resident Office in Zagreb, the EBRD Community Initiative decided to support the fundraising campaign whose proceeds will be utilized for the selected end-beneficiaries in Sisak-Moslavina County, the most vulnerable victims of the recent devastating earthquakes.

Thanks to the joint effort of the SOLIDARNA Foundation and the EBRD employees three priority end-beneficiaries, which will be supported by this fundraising campaign, were identified:

  • “Solidarity Homes for People” – unique and already established program of Solidarna which is supporting the construction of small wooden houses, built by the local craftsmen for the permanent accommodation of people in the rural parts of the affected area, whose houses were completely demolished in the recent earthquake. Together with the houses for the people, this program is financing the construction of very simple shelters for farm animals, which are essential for the economic survival of the old rural communities. It is expected that up to 3 solidarity homes will be financed through this fundraising campaign. More information about the programme can be found here.

  • Dječji dom Vrbina Sisak – an institution providing out-of-family care services to orphans, neglected or abused children and children from socially deprived families located in the City of Sisak. Prior to the earthquake, Dječji dom Vrbina Sisak was located in a century old building which was completely demolished, causing the immediate relocation of all staff and children under care. At the moment, the institution is in the process of purchasing and furnishing of the new building in the City of Sisak, which will be financially supported by this fundraising campaign in an amount of up to 20% of the raised funds. More details on the activities of the institution can be found on the following web page (https://domzadjecuvrbina.hr/)

  • Soba Čuda – a special facility for the therapy and integration of the children with developmental disabilities located in the City of Sisak was established in 2016 by the Association of Disabled Person in Sisak-Moslavina County. Prior to the earthquake, which completely destroyed its building, the facility served more than 100 kids with disabilities. At the moment, the Association is preparing the construction of the new similar facility and its construction will be financially supported by this fundraising campaign in an amount of up to 20% of the raised funds.
